Live Jazz Performance

Canary,Hepcats is an American six-piece jazz ensemble based out of Asheville, NC. The band also performs as a quintet, quartet or trio for smaller venues.

Their music is a variety of classic Jazz standards, to Chicago/Delta Blues. The band features the sultry vocals of Abbe Davis, with an elegant sound of playfulness and virtuosity. Abbe Davis (formerly Abbe Samuels)  has had two albums on the Lindy Hop international dance scene, Lindy Friendly and Thrill Me Again (never released) from 2004-2006, still popular at events.

Canary,Hepcats transports audiences to other eras. Songs of Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Koko Taylor, Cab Calloway, BB KIng, Sinatra, Etta James and Billie Holiday are recreated, yet given the same soul. Driven by a tight, dynamic rhythm section and rich instrumental textures, this band creates an atmosphere that is both cinematic and deeply intimate.

Abbe Davis is the heart and dynamic vocalist of Canary Hepcats. She is an alumna of University of Miami, and attended the Frost School of Music's Studio Music & Jazz program.

Abbe has opened for Buddy Guy at the Riverwalk Blues Festival with former blues band, Southern Reach. Her other previous Jazz band, Abbe Samuels, was featured at Riverwalk Jazz Festivals in Fort Lauderdale.

In New York City Abbe performed at the historic Armor Hall in the Wave Hill House, and was the featured guest at A Night of Jazz at the United Nations. She has also been a part of the Tanglewood Summer series jazz ensembles.

Abbe has headlined at the historic Jazz Club Alto in Amsterdam, Netherlands. In South Florida she opened for the Wailers (of Bob Marley) at the Parkland Memorial Concert with previous rock band, Sordid Fable.

Abbe is chief editor of the international online popular rock music magazine, trurockrevival.com. She is also a prolific songwriter in the styles of rock, blues and jazz. She has performed at the Grey Eagle in Asheville, NC as part of the Tru Rock Revival Festival. Her new band, Davis, releases their first album this Fall.

Canary, Hepcats, includes a variety of highly established Jazz performers in Asheville and nationally. With their glamorous vintage aesthetic and passionate dedication to preserving the music and spirit of bygone eras, the group has cultivated a following in their artistry and care of Jazz and Blues.

"Hired Canary Hepcats  for our yearly IT event in Charlotte and they were smoking hot, with
Jazz and blues, horns, the singer's vocal prowess. They had such great energy and what musicians! Will hire them ahead  for business events in the area. "

"Huge fan of Abbe Davis as both a songwriter
and a singer. She performed at the Parkland Memorial event in FL and then I saw her in Miami for the Riverwalk Blues festivals. Her voice is her thumbprint and so is her style of singing. The band is what you'd expect from another era in how they nod to the eras!"

"Abbe (Samuels) delivers playful scat solos, soul and feel, along with her broad vocal range on The Abbe Samuels Band's first live album, Lindy Friendly. The band is Valerio Cantori on keys, Sam Chiodo on bass, Danny Berger on drums and Julien Purifoy with Mike Malloy and David Miller on horns and they are excellent! They are cooking up East Coast to West Coast Jazz solidly. I highly recommend."
